Can I refreeze feeder mice if I thawed too many?

Accepted Answer

No, we strongly recommend against refreezing feeder mice. **Why Refreezing is Not Recommended:** 1. **Bacterial Growth**: Thawing allows bacteria to multiply. Refreezing pauses this but doesn't kill bacteria. 2. **Cell Damage**: Ice crystals formed during refreezing rupture cell walls, causing: - Texture degradation - Moisture loss - Reduced nutritional value 3. **Quality Loss**: Each freeze-thaw cycle degrades quality **Better Solutions:** - **Plan Ahead**: Thaw only what you need - **Portion Before Freezing**: Divide bulk orders into meal-sized portions before freezing - **Use Leftovers**: If you thaw too many, use remaining within 24 hours (keep refrigerated) - **Feed Multiple**: Give extra to other reptiles if you have them **Safe Disposal:** If you must discard, wrap securely and dispose with regular trash.
